FOUNDERS
Dr. Anup Surendranath
Anup Surendranath is an Assistant Professor of Law and is the Executive Director of Project 39A at National Law University, Delhi. He read law at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (2006) and the University of Oxford on the Felix Scholarship (2007-12). While his teaching commitments revolve around legal methods and constitutional law, his research and clinical work are on issues of criminal justice in India.
Darshana Mitra
Darshana Mitra graduated from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences in 2012 and subsequently worked at the Alternative Law Forum, Bengaluru, until June 2018. At ALF she focused on issues concerning immigration law, child rights, gender and sexuality. In 2018, Darshana received the Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowship to pursue her LL.M at Columbia Law School, New York, where she was an LL.M. Human Rights Fellow at the Human Rights Institute. At Columbia Law School, she worked on the impact of conflict in Yemen and Kashmir on civilians, and also focused on developing an understanding of citizenship and immigration laws globally.
Mohsin Alam Bhat
M. Mohsin Alam Bhat is an Assistant Professor of Law and Executive-Director of the Center for Public Interest Law at the Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University. He read law at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (2009), before completing his LL.M. (2011) and J.S.D. (2017) from Yale Law School. His research focuses on law and religion, social movements, and discrimination and exclusion.
COORDINATORS
Rupali Francesca Samuel
Rupali Francesca Samuel is a human rights and constitutional law scholar and practitioner. She is a graduate of Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad and is enrolled as an advocate at the Delhi Bar. She clerked with Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dr. S Muralidhar at the Delhi High Court and thereafter practiced before the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and trial courts in Delhi. In 2019, she attended Harvard Law School as a Fulbright-Nehru Fellow 2019-2020 where she received two Dean’s Scholar medals for outstanding scholarship and was awarded a Master’s in Law (LL.M) in 2020. She was thereafter awarded the prestigious Harvard Law School Henigson Human Rights Fellowship 2020 – 2021. Since July 2020, Rupali has been working at Parichay in the capacity of the head of the Litigation and Research team.
Shardul Gopujkar
Shardul graduated from Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai in 2021. He started working at Parichay in 2020 as a student-volunteer and joined as a Consultant (Research) in 2021. Over the course of his internships, his work has engaged on issues pertaining to conflict and rights violations in Kashmir and Chhattisgarh, fundamental rights and the constitution, and criminal profiling and policing. He is interested in the domain of criminal law, immigration, humanitarian law, as well as constitutional law.
CORE TEAM
Arunima Nair
Arunima is a final year LL.B. student at Jindal Global Law School, Sonepat. She holds prior degrees in English Literature and Sociology from Lady Shri Ram College and Delhi School of Economics respectively. Her interests lie in public law, jurisprudence, and socio-legal studies. She has been a member of Parichay’s Core Team since 2019, and is currently also the Managing Editor of the Parichay Blog.
Arushi Gupta
Arushi is a fifth-year law student at Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai. Her interests lie in the fields of constitutional law, discrimination law, human rights law, and transgender rights. She joined Parichay in April 2021. She is leading the case law database project, apart from being one of the Editors at the Parichay Blog. She has also worked as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Justice, Law and Society.
Diya Mal
Diya is a fourth-year law student of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. Through various internships she has developed a special interest in domestic criminal litigation and citizenship laws. In the near future she aims to work at an intersection between research and litigation.
Eeshan Sonak
Eeshan is a third-year law student at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, and is leading the Database Project at Parichay, apart from being a Blog Editor. His days lack predictability, pendulating between productivity and procrastination. His interests are known to change from time to time, varying from sports to abstract art to the outdoors.
Gayatri Gupta
Gayatri is a fifth-year law student at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. She has a keen interest in human rights law, refugee and citizenship law, and public health law. She joined Parichay Legal Aic Clinic in January 2020 as a volunteer and has been working as a Core Team member since January 2021. She is also the Student Editor-in-Chief of Law and Other Things blog. These days, she can be found chilling with dogs and honing her binge-watching skills.
Harsh Jain
Harsh is a third-year law student at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. He joined Parichay as a volunteer in February 2021 and subsequently joined the Core Team in September. Harsh worked on matters of constitutional law, criminal law, and public policy in his internships and is passionate about those areas. Most of the time, he loves reading, watching crime thrillers, and shouting at the TV while watching cricket.
Jagriti Pandey
Jagriti is a final year law student at Chanakya National Law University, Patna. She joined Parichay in December 2019 and became a part of the Core Team in 2020. Her internships gave her an opportunity to explore diverse areas of laws including data privacy laws and anti-terror laws. She likes to read about criminal justice and prisoners’ rights. Jagriti aspires to pursue a career in litigation after she graduates. She is probably watching cat videos while you are reading this.
Lakshmi Menon
Lakshmi is a final year law student at Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. She joined Parichay in 2019 as a volunteer and subsequently joined the core team in 2020. Through her internships and volunteering stints, Lakshmi has worked in areas such as labour law and hate speech law. She hopes to contribute to the fields of constitutional law, criminal law, and gender justice. In her spare time, she’s mostly catching up with never ending to-read and watch lists.
Moulika Diwakar
Moulika is a final year student at National Law University Odisha, Cuttack. She has been with Parichay since 2019. She has a keen interest in international human rights law, refugee law, and international humanitarian law.
Rikit Shahi
Rikit is a final year law student with interests in public law and policy. When not volunteering at Parichay, Rikit reads all things constitution and historical fiction. He also tweets incessantly about everything under the sun.
Ritwik Tyagi
Ritwik is currently studying law at National Law University, Nagpur and harbours the dream of becoming a trial lawyer someday. Having been involved with Parichay as a volunteer from 2020, he joined the Core Team in September 2021 and has been involved with work across teams such as Advocacy & Capacity Building, Litigation, as well as Research.
Sahla Nechiyil
Sahla is a second-year student at Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. Her principal research interest is Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and their work with the Muslim community in India. Currently, her other research interests include India’s citizenship and immigration laws.
Sitamsini Cherukumalli
Sitamsini is a final year law student at Jindal Global Law School, Sonepat, where she is a recipient of the Savitri Jindal merit-cum-means Scholarship. She has been working with Parichay since 2019. She has previously worked as a Research Assistant at Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative for a project on police custodial deaths. She enjoys reading crime novels and watching terrible movies.
Md. Tasnimul Hassan
Tasnimul is a law undergraduate at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He is a National Coordinator (Academics) at Students For Liberty, South Asia and the Publications Coordinator at CB Educational Services LLP. He is a part of the inaugural cohort of Fellowship For Freedom in India, and a Consultant at 180 Degrees Consulting JMI. Having developed a passion for advocating individual liberty, he often finds himself working on issues of criminal justice and human rights.

Sarah is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Ancient Indian Culture, History, and Archaeology. Although she calls herself an artist, illustrator and designer, in reality she is a dabbler and cannot stay put in one slot. Her passions lie in painting, art history, socio-politics and culture, graphic design, fashion design, and user interface design. When she is not studying, painting, or designing, you can find her ranting about politics, reading, and listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on loop.
